Shaped by a nomadic upbringing and a life filled with adventure, artist Genola De Jong reimagines color to craft serene scenes that celebrate the beauty of her South Pacific surroundings.
Genola grew up in an adventurous family, living on boats, islands, and in homes across Australia, Europe, and the South Pacific. This lifestyle provided ample time to explore and create, forming the foundation of her lifelong love for travel and art.
Her work is inspired by the beauty of her ever-changing surroundings. She constantly searches for exotic and interesting objects, fabrics, patterns, fruit, flowers, fish, insects, and birds, which find their way into her serene figurative scenes.
Exploring color and the endless rich combinations that bring a painting to life is one of her passions. She enjoys the challenge of working with limited color palettes, sometimes using only two or three colors in a painting.
Genola continues to live, travel, and exhibit around the world. She is now based with her family in the Byron Bay hinterland and on the Fijian island of Malolo Lailai.
